GDA Engineers is working with Uintah County and Vernal City, Utah to relocate the main runway (currently designated 16-34) 275’ to the west and build a new parallel taxiway 400’ west of the new runway. The new runway will be re-designated Runway 17-35. The runway will be designed to C-II standards and will be 100’ wide and 7700’ long. Constructing the new runway and taxiway will require new runway and taxiway lighting, REILs, PAPIs, beacon, segmented circle, relocated ASOS, primary and supplementary windcones, airfield signage, runway distance remaining signs, vault, vault equipment, fence, drainage facilities and irrigation facilities. In addition, nearly 2/3 of crosswind runway 7-25 will need to be reconstructed as part of this project. The crosswind will be re-designated 8-26 and all lighting and signs will be replaced. The commercial service apron will need to be modified and added onto for ingress and egress due to the proximity of the new parallel taxiway. Approximately 90,000 SF of Apron area is affected. Municipal water and sewer will be relocated, lowered, and/or removed to accommodate the construction of the parallel taxiway on newly acquired property. The project will be constructed in three phases over three to four years. The total of all funding is over $28 million.
